High school is not often a picturesque time of life, but the students in Cambridge Rindge and Latin School’s first ever AP photography class have found many moments worth recording. According to instructor Debi Milligan, the analog and digital photographs feature a range of subjects including “landscape, architecture, urban landscape, portraiture, fashion, street photography, [and] still life.” The students’ work will be on display at the Chandler Gallery through May 13.

Milligan says that the students, who have taken multiple years of photography prior to enrolling in the AP class, are developing their own visual style: “My students all have been through many critiques and write a serious artist statement every semester so by the time they reach AP, they are quite comfortable talking about their work.” The AP class offers a rigorous approach to the study of photography. The final portfolio includes 12 Breadth photographs to demonstrate the student’s understanding of a variety of approaches and 2-D design issues, and 12 Concentration photographs that delve into a single subject or genre.

Selected photographs from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School AP Photography students are now on display at Lesley College of Art and Design’s juried exhibition: “Emerging Talents: High School Photography Programs.”

“Navigating the Life of Photo—CRLS AP Photography Exhibit ” is on display at the Chandler Gallery from April 25 through May 13. The opening reception will be held on May 12 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
