Every year, children at the Agassiz Baldwin Afterschool transform the Baldwin School cafeteria into a pop-up restaurant called the Flying Zucchini Cafe (FZC).

Using the project based learning model, Afterschool students K-5 work hard to plan and host the event. With teacher support, students create decorations, plan entertainment, apply for jobs, craft the menu, and prepare the food. Students, staff, and families alike look forward to the big unveiling of each year’s theme, which is picked after weeks of student deliberation. This year, Flying Zucchini Cafe’s theme will be “Island Paradise”, and families are welcome to attend on either May 3 or May 4.

During April vacation week programming 3rd through 5th graders will take a field trip to visit Cambridge Common to get  a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run a restaurant.
