Project Schedule

  • Crews will begin replacing water services on Forest St at the Somerville line and will work their way towards Massachusetts Ave.
  • The work is expected to take 2 weeks to complete.
  • Once crews complete this phase, they will begin installation of the new sewer main.
  • Work hours are 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday.

What to Expect during Water Service Replacement

  • Crews will need to shut off your water for a period of time (about 2 hours) to replace the water service. You will receive a notice in advance of this water shut down.
  • Emergency vehicles will have access to the street at all times.
  • “No Parking” signs will be posted; please be sure to check dates/times. Traffic signs and police details will be in place to assist neighbors.
  • Pedestrian access and access into properties will be maintained at all times, but may be restricted in certain ways. All sidewalks will remain open.

Senior citizens will be selected with the assistance of the Cambridge Senior Centers and Cambridge Housing caseworkers, who have the knowledge to identify people who do not have immediate family members nearby and who have very limited financial resources.

The gifts will be hand delivered on December 24, 2011 by Cambridge Police Officers and other community volunteers. It is their hope to brighten the day of otherwise lonely seniors on Christmas with a small gift that lets them know they are not forgotten!
