Our Program
At Agassiz Baldwin Community (ABC) we have been educating children for over thirty years. Sacramento Street Preschool provides a small, individualized program for twenty children per day ages two years nine months to five years of age. Here at Sacramento Street Preschool, we see each child as an individual with unique social, emotional, physical, and cognitive strengths and needs. It is our goal to create a developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum that engages each child.
We are firm believers in play! Through a curriculum of sensory exploration, dramatic play, music and visual arts, our primary emphasis is on the social enrichment of the children, especially in preparation for future school experiences. Sacramento Street Preschool values and celebrates cultural and family diversity. Our population is drawn from local neighborhoods and a variety of countries, thus forming a rich cultural community.
Our Staff
Daily staff consists of a full-time Lead Teacher/Director with education and expertise in early childhood care and an experienced teacher with training in the field. The program is supported by interns or work-study students who work part-time while receiving training in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field. Staff is trained in First Aid and CPR for young children.
Our Space
Sacramento Street Preschool is located in three rooms of the first floor at Agassiz Baldwin Community at 20 Sacramento Street, a large Victorian house with a spacious backyard. Classrooms consist of a kitchen/art room, large meeting room, and a cozy carpeted playroom. When weather permits, we also have access to the Sacramento Field playground across the street. In addition, the Preschool program will have dedicated art classes at the new Maud Morgan Visual Arts Center each Tuesday and Wednesday morning from 10:15-11:15am. Workshops will be led by a specialized art instructor who collaborates with the preschool teachers to integrate classroom themes into the art studio.
Family Events
Sacramento Street Preschool values family involvement and hosts several workshops, parent coffees, and events throughout the school year. We also invite family members to come in as “Mystery Guests” to read a favorite story or to share a special talent with the class. Each spring, the preschool hosts its own art show in the Fay Chandler Gallery.
