Our Story
20 Sacramento Street has been the home of community-based preschool programming since the late 1970s. We continue to offer a unique and cozy space for families interested in art- and play-based, part-time programming that nurtures the social-emotional skills children need to become curious and confident learners.

Our Space includes three rooms of the first floor of a large Victorian house. The preschool also makes use of Maud Morgan Arts, providing for a unique learning environment for our arts-based programming.  Our spacious backyard, which includes a sandbox with a water component, children’s garden, and plenty of room to run around and play allows us to provide outdoor learning opportunities. Our aim is to provide a nurturing setting for you child’s first school experience.

Our Teachers design the curriculum, taking into consideration children’s needs and interests. The program is led by the Early Education Site Director, Samantha Eaton. On some days the program is also supported by interns or work-study students receiving training in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field. Staff is trained in First Aid and CPR for young children.

Our Community
Our population is drawn both from local neighborhoods and other countries, forming a rich cultural community. Sacramento Street Preschool provides a small, mixed-age preschool experience in a safe, nurturing neighborhood environment. We partner with caregivers and understand the importance of flexible family engagement opportunities.

Our Mission
As part of the Agassiz Baldwin Community organization, Sacramento Street Preschool supports the agency’s equity and access work. We believe all young children should have access to a joyful preschool experience complete with outdoor and arts-based exploration. Learn more about financial aid options here.

From our families:

“This is a fantastic program that helps your child set up for success and eases the integration into future school environments.”

“SSP has been a wonderful place for our son to make friends and engage in activities. He is a sweet shy little guy and has been so happy at SSP. The teachers make him feel welcome every morning. He comes home in the afternoon with stories of the games he played with his friends, books he read with his teachers, and singing new songs. We love SSP!”

“Our son has had a great experience at Sacramento Street Preschool! He’s gained confidence and built nice relationships with his peers and teachers. He loves the outdoor play space and different art projects they do. The classroom is diverse and the setting is home-like, which is really comforting!”
