Scholarships
Scholarship Program Goals
The Agassiz Baldwin Community (ABC) is committed to providing accessible, high quality children’s programs. We value strongly a diverse population of children and families and strive to maintain an environment that reflects economic, racial and cultural diversity. To help achieve this end, we have funds allocated for scholarships for our three programs —Agassiz Baldwin Afterschool, Sacramento Street Preschool and Outback Summer Program.

Application Procedure
Families applying for scholarships should fill out an application form and include a copy the past year’s IRS 1040 to determine family size and income, and verification of current income.
Applications will be reviewed on an “as received” basis starting:
- July 1 for Agassiz Afterschool
- July 1 for Sacramento Street Preschool
- March 1 for Outback Summer
Program Decisions will be made in a timely manner. Scholarships will be awarded for one program year from September through June and from July through August for Outback Summer Program. Returning parents must re-apply each year.
Families may submit an application after the deadline. However, once funds are distributed, even qualifying families may not receive a scholarship. Families will be informed if all scholarship money has been awarded and, if they wish, they may be placed on a waiting list in case funds do again become available.
Eligibility
All families are welcome to apply for a scholarship. The average award is approximately 50% of tuition, depending on availability of funds and applicant’s income level. Children’s Programs participants are given priority for scholarships when all adult members of the household work full time or attend a full time employment training program.
How Scholarships are Funded
The Board of the ABC allocates approximately $20,000 each year from its operational income for scholarship assistance to families. Additional grant money is also raised to expand scholarships and for special scholarship programs.
Vouchers & Other Assistance
ABC will accept vouchers, distributed through Child Care Resource Center. Scholarship applicants are also encouraged to apply for vouchers, since they usually pay a higher percentage of tuition than ABC scholarships. Many churches, organizations and work places, including universities, also have scholarship programs. We urge all scholarship applicants to pursue these programs if available to them.

What an Outback parent had to say about our scholarship program:
“Summer is hard. I must arrange for more child care than usual. Having financial assistance reduced the stress both financially and emotionally.”
