COVID-19 Closures and Updates

Agassiz Baldwin Community is facing an unprecedented situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the situation is rapidly evolving day to day, ABC is bracing itself for significant financial impacts for many months to come. To prepare for this, the following decisions were made to preserve ABC’s ability to provide programs, resources, and services beyond the difficult times we are currently in. Thanks in part to the generosity of our community, we are able to maintain a small team at this time.

As a non-profit community organization, we must adapt to community needs as they evolve. With schools closed through May 4th, ABC Afterschool is temporarily closed and April Vacation Week programming is canceled. Maud Morgan Arts programming for the spring and summer has been canceled. Both ABC and MMA are operating with a temporarily reduced staff until programming resumes.

We will follow statewide guidelines for social distancing and closures. This means the Chandler Gallery, the Maud Morgan Art Center, program spaces and offices at 20 Sacramento Street will remain closed until further notice. All Agassiz Neighborhood Council in-person meetings are cancelled until September at the earliest. While all in-person Living Well Network activities are cancelled until the fall, the LWN newsletter will continue offering important resources and ways for our members to stay connected.

Despite the current challenges, our team is still working hard to support the community. We’ve been connecting with families and seniors, connecting people with resources, and have shipped out dozens of boxes of arts and educational materials to afterschoolers who were lacking these things at home. If you are struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out and we will do whatever is in our power to help. Community members are encouraged to stay in contact with us, and we will respond to needs as we are able, providing information and resources as staffing permits.

Memories of incredible past events live on and can be viewed on our Flickr page. We look forward to creating more memories with you as soon as we are able to come back together in a safe and healthy way.

During this time we know that there is an overwhelming amount of information online and on the news regarding COVID-19. We suggest that you refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for up-to-date guidelines. Like you, we are all trying to find a healthy balance of remaining up to date yet conscious of limits to anxiety and stress. There is no right way to feel during a global pandemic, but we are all doing our part to help our community stay safe. We are here for you during this difficult time.
