Annual Meeting – Tuesday, July 11

Submitted by on July 10, 2023 – 7:00 amNo Comment

Please join us on Tuesday, July 11th, for our Annual Meeting. The Council will vote to approve the slate (below) for the 2022-2023 Board of Directors. RSVP for the meeting here.

In past years, the Annual Meeting served in part as a social event where the community could meet the Board while enjoying some social time together with refreshments. This July, because we’ll be online (sadly sans refreshments), the meeting will likely be brief.

Please participate in this important meeting! We need a quorum of five Council Members* to vote to elect the Board.

Council Members & Voting Privileges

As stated in our by-laws, a Council member is:
“Anyone living in the Agassiz* Neighborhood or anyone with a child attending either the Agassiz* Elementary School or Agassiz* Community School is eligible to become a member of the council”

“Anyone falling into any of the above categories may become an active member of the Council by attending the monthly meetings of the council.”

To vote: “In order to become a voting member, a person must register, by signing an attendance sheet, at an Agassiz* Neighborhood Council meeting. The individual will then have voting privileges for the next twelve (12) months. A member must vote in person at any meeting.”

*This language reflects the By-laws, which have not yet been updated with the Baldwin name.

Volunteering for the Board

The Maria L. Baldwin Community Center seeks candidates for Board membership on an ongoing basis. Candidates will be considered when vacancies occur or as Directors retire at the end of their terms. Those with expertise in law, finance, anti-racism, representatives of local businesses, and people with children in ABC programs or with strong community ties are often sought.

Are you a parent of a student in our afterschool, summer, or children’s arts programming? We are currently seeking two Parent Steering Committee members. These Directors serve to assure representation of our children’s programs on the Board.

Click here to learn more about the Board of Directors, which meets for approximately an hour one Wednesday per month, September through June, (longer and additional meetings as-needed), or download this PDF.

To volunteer, candidates should send a statement that explains their interest in the Board as well as relevant experience and a resumé, if available, to mlapage@agassiz.org or Agassiz Baldwin Community, Attn: ABC Nominating Committee, 20 Sacramento Street, Cambridge, MA 02138.
