Food Pantry Delivery Effort
Weekly Food Pantry Delivery – No Longer Available as of September 2023
In April 2020, responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, fka Agassiz Baldwin Community began collaborating with community partners in an effort to expand access to food and essential supplies to households experiencing food insecurity. We sought to support those who could not travel to a food pantry due to limited mobility, childcare responsibilities, or COVID infection or risk. We teamed up with established and new partners, including Cambridge Community Center, who established an emergency pantry in their gym during the pandemic’s onset; Cambridge Bike Safety, an advocacy group with cyclists looking to volunteer; local child-centered nonprofits Tutoring Plus and Community Arts Center; and healthcare provider Cambridge Health Alliance.
Throughout 2020 and 2021, in sunshine and snow, we succeeded in distributing 40-50 boxes of food weekly, delivered mostly by bike volunteers. In 2022, with a hearty and dedicated cohort of cyclists and several volunteers who drive, we continued to deliver food, baby supplies, and other household essentials to individuals, seniors, and families.
At the end of summer 2023, we made the difficult decision to conclude pantry deliveries. This effort wouldn’t be possible without the support of our partners, volunteers, and donors, for whom we are deeply grateful.
