On the evening of Friday July 13 MMA hosted an opening of its’ new exhibit in the Chandler Gallery. The exhibit is a collection of photographs taken by Susan Johnson Bergin entitled, “Alcan Road Trip: Leaving Behind the Last Great Frontier.”  In the first week of April, Bergin embarked on a 5-day trip from Anchorage, AK to Calgary, AB, a 2400-mile journey crossing the Canadian border. After Bergin’s daughter decided to move to Canada, the two decided to make the trip together. Therefore, these photos represent the sentimental and physical leaving behind of the Last Great Frontier: Alaska. The photographs displayed a range of settings including the Yukon territories, the Signpost Forest, the Canadian Rockies, the Badlands and even flatland prairies.

From 6pm-8pm, MMA staff and Susan herself greeted a flow of visitors to the gallery with light refreshments, and good wine. Susan answered the many questions visitors posed about her journey, often pointing to the car that made the journey which she had parked right outside the opening. The exhibit will be on display in the Chandler Gallery until August 10, 2012.

Exhibit  information can be found on the MMA Website.

More of Susan Bergin’s photographs can be viewed on her website.
