Submitted by on February 19, 2021 – 12:16 pmNo Comment

The Agassiz Neighborhood Council has been hosting discussions about the neighborhood name since January 2020, when resident Maya Counter proposed renouncing the racist legacy of American-Swiss biologist Louis Agassiz and renaming the neighborhood for African American educator Maria L. Baldwin, (for whom the Cambridge school was renamed in 2002).

Next Steps

  • January-February 2021 – Continue to collect submissions, including additional name suggestions, for digital “context library” of reactions, ideas, art, and resources. The deadline to suggest a name and submit to the context library is February 22, 2021
  • Early March 2021 – Flyer neighborhood and invite all residents to view digital library and complete a survey about the name
  • Mid-March 2021 – Process survey results and report back to ANC and Cambridge City Council

Catch up with what has occurred thus far by downloading selected Whistler newsletters and meeting slide decks on the Neighborhood Development and Projects page.
