Neighborhood Name Update – Take the Survey!

Submitted by on March 17, 2021 – 1:38 pmNo Comment

Take a survey about the neighborhood name! Deadline tomorrow, March 18, 2021.

The Process Thus Far

The Agassiz Neighborhood Council has been hosting discussions about the neighborhood name since January 2020, when resident Maya Counter proposed renouncing the racist legacy of American-Swiss biologist Louis Agassiz and renaming the neighborhood for African American educator Maria L. Baldwin, (for whom the Cambridge school was renamed in 2002), or for a different person or neighborhood element of note.

Next Steps

  • Early March 2021 – Flyer neighborhood, invite residents to view digital library, and take a survey about the name (The website on which the survey is constructed, SurveyMonkey, will prevent visitors from taking the survey again if they have already filled it out.)
  • Mid-March 2021 – Process survey results and report back to ANC and Cambridge City Council
