Improved Crosswalk at Oxford & Wendell Streets

Submitted by on November 30, 2012 – 2:21 pmNo Comment

Stephen Diamond, ANC Meeting Chair and ABC Board Director provided the photos below, showing improvements to the traffic calming table at the corner of Oxford and Wendell Streets.

Previously, the Council petitioned the city to add crosswalk markings to better indicate that the raised platform is a zone where pedestrians have the right-of-way. The well recognized pedestrian white stripes had been temporarily painted on the red brick area at the Council’s request.

Currently, the priority for pedestrian crossing has been made more permanently visible by applying white thermoplastic stripes onto a new strip of black asphalt. It is anticipated that the same new crossing stripes will be added at the raised platform at Oxford and Garfield street.

This newer method of forming the raised traffic calming platforms is now standard for the city. The Council thanks all those in the Cambridge Department of Public Works and Traffic, Parking, and Transportation for making these improvements.
