Please Don’t Lock Bikes To Sign Posts at Disability Parking Spaces

Submitted by on November 14, 2011 – 9:00 amNo Comment

The Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities encourages cyclists not to park their bikes at sign posts that designate disability parking spaces. Bicycles locked to posts block access to vehicles, particularly the trunk and front area of the car, and do not provide a three-foot, obstruction-free path of travel for the person to access all areas of the vehicle.

If you see a bicycle on one of these poles, or you see an abandoned bicycle on any pole, please contact the Cambridge Compliance Officer, at (617) 349-4869 or via e-mail vbest@cambridgema.gov. If cyclists find that they cannot park their bicycles in certain neighborhoods, they can request a bicycle rack by contacting the Cambridge Community Development Office at (617) 349-4600.
