Oxford Street Construction

A Notice from Cambridge Department of Public Works:

On Wednesday, August 1st, the City’s contractor, Newport Construction, will begin sewer and drain main installation on Oxford St between Forest St and the Somerville line.  During this work, this section of Oxford St will be closed to through traffic, but open to abutters.

Project Schedule

  • Crews will install the new sewer main between Forest St and the Somerville line, this work is expected to take 2 weeks to complete.
  • Crews will then begin the installation of the new drain main between Forest St and the Somerville line, this work is expected to take 2 weeks to complete.
  •  Once crews complete this section of drain main, they will begin temporary water installation on Oxford St between Prentiss Street and the Somerville line.
  • A new notice will be sent out before the temporary water service starts.
  • Work hours are 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday.

 What to Expect during Construction

  • During this work, Oxford St will be closed to through traffic but open to abutters.
  • Emergency vehicles will have access at all times and all city services will continue.
  • “No Parking” signs will be posted; please be sure to check dates/times.  Traffic signs and police details will be in place to assist neighbors.
  • Pedestrian access and access into properties will be maintained at all times, but may be restricted in certain ways.  All sidewalks will remain open.
