Gallery Hours: Weekdays 9:00 am- 5:00 pm

When the artists whose work will be featured in the upcoming Chandler Gallery exhibition arrive each week at Maud Morgan Arts (MMA), they are usually serving as teachers, encouraging aspiring artists of all ages to develop their technique and creativity. MMA students are already aware of their teachers’ strengths as instructors—many MMA faculty members also hold teaching positions at colleges and universities. But at the MMA Faculty Exhibition, on display from December 6 through January 4, these teachers will get a chance to showcase their work as artists.

And what a showcase it is. The artists work in a diverse array of media: collage, kinetic sculpture, watercolors, oils, ceramics, bronze, printmaking, and even puppets. MMA faculty range from emerging artists to mid-career and established artists, and their work is shown at dozens of galleries across the country and across the world. In addition, the faculty members’ work is part of the collections of some major museums, including The DeCordova Museum, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, and The Whitney Museum of American Art.

Since these artists teach at MMA at different times during the week, they don’t often get a chance to come together to share with one another their passion for teaching and for art. This show affords them an opportunity to celebrate their contributions to both fields, and to greet the next generation of artists who will follow in their artistic and educational footsteps. Standing in the gallery, looking around at the myriad of forms that artistic self-expression can take, one can’t help but feel inspired to create. And to teach.

The MMA Faculty Exhibition opens at the Chandler Gallery on Friday, December 6, 2012, with a reception from 6-8 pm, and the exhibit will run through January 4, 2013. The following artists will have pieces included in the show: Jameson Copp, Christiane Corcelle, Deborah Davidson, Diane Fiedler, Barbara Fletcher, Ann Forbush, Jane Goldman, Raul Gonzalez, Jill Hoy, Jon Imber, Joel Janowitz, Boriana Kantcheva, Mary Kenny, Maria LaCreta, Anne Lilly, Peter Lipsitt, Mela Lyman, Nicola McEldowney, Chris Minidis, Debra Olin, Tiffany Playford, Nancy Popper, Wendy Prellwitz, Danielle Reuter, Catherine Sherwood, Emily Somma, Caitlin Sundby, Julia Talcott, and Gideon Weisz.
