Agassiz Baldwin Community Offers Kid-Friendly Opportunity for Holiday Shopping
For children in elementary school, holiday shopping can be overwhelming. There are so many commercials and sparkling displays, the cashiers are mostly interested in helping adults, and even “stocking stuffers” are beyond the budget limits of an allowance. But the Kids-Only Holiday Sale is a chance for children to learn about the fun of giving in a no-pressure atmosphere. This annual event, run by the Agassiz Baldwin Community, is also a wonderful way to shop locally and to support a neighborhood community center.
The event aims to provide a safe, supportive environment where children are encouraged to participate in this holiday ritual on their own terms. Only children are allowed to shop at the Kids-Only Holiday Sale, but teachers are available to guide young shoppers through the occasionally bewildering process of selecting appropriate holiday gifts. Items are priced between ten cents and five dollars, all merchandise is donated by local businesses, and all proceeds support Agassiz Baldwin Children’s programs. In this way, holiday shopping becomes about more than just finding the perfect gift: it teaches children to give to their loved ones while giving back to the community.
The Kids-Only Holiday Sale takes place from 3-6 pm on December 9-12 (while supplies last) at 20 Sacramento Street in Cambridge.
